Avian Adventures Classroom Program

In this dynamic program, students learn about the birds found in New York City during the wintertime and their characteristics. They investigate feathers and skulls to discover how different adaptations help birds thrive. By designing their own nest, students consider the impact of a birds’ environment on their ability to survive. Each class will receive a bird guide to encourage ongoing avian exploration.

Seeds We Need Classroom Program

Students investigate the internal structures of seeds and learn how these parts enable a seed to grow into a plant. A seed dissection activity allows for exploration of these structures. Students discover how seeds in New York City have adapted to use environmental factors for dispersal, playing a matching game to apply their new understanding. Each class will come away with a potted seed to nurture into a fully grown plant.
