Wave Hill Land Acknowledgement

Wave Hill is located on part of Lenapehoking, the unceded, traditional homeland of the Lenape people. We acknowledge the painful history of Lenape displacement from Lenapehoking, as colonial settlers and federal policies violently and systemically removed the Lenape people from their ancestral homeland.

We recognize all Lenape peoples, including those who belong to the Delaware Nation and Delaware Tribe of Indians in Oklahoma; the Stockbridge-Munsee Community in Wisconsin; the Munsee-Delaware Nation, Moravian of the Thames First Nation and Delaware of Six Nations in Ontario; and the Ramapough-Munsee and the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Nations of New Jersey.

Wave Hill is committed to honoring the Lenape people’s connection to this land and their intimate knowledge of the local ecosystem. We pledge to educate both ourselves and the public on the history, culture and ongoing contributions of the diversified and distinct Lenape people, highlighting their perspectives in programming, outreach and long-term planning.

This is a Living Land Acknowledgement that we will continue to update, as needed, with valued input from community members and stakeholders.
