Prepare for an out-of-this-world experience with members of the Westchester Amateur Astronomers. Begin in Armor Hall with an introduction to the night sky and download helpful apps for your cell phone to assist with locating stars, planets, and constellations (not required). Then head outside to observe the stars from our viewing location on the Great Lawn. Test out a variety of telescopes and chat with the astronomers about celestial objects on view. If there is something in particular you are interested in observing, feel free to ask!

Wave Hill remains open until 11pm for ticket holders of this special program in order to take advantage of the darkness later in the evening. Participants may bring a lawn chair or blanket to lay on the ground and take in the full experience from our location high above the Hudson River. Cloudy skies will move the program to the rain date.

The Café, Shop, Gallery and Wave Hill House remain open to all visitors until 7:30PM. Grounds close at 8PM. Ticketed programs begin at 8PM.

Advance registration is encouraged online or by calling 718.549.3200 x251. Day-of registration based on availability and not guaranteed. Ages 12 and older welcome with an adult. Sorry, kids under 12 are not permitted at these late-night events.

Rain date: Sunday, August 3rd. If a program moves to the rain date, ticket holders will be admitted starting at 7:30PM. The grounds will not be open to the public and no cafe service is available on these evenings.

Nighttime Nature Walks follow a route along mixed-material pathways with varying elevations. A limited number of walking sticks will be available to borrow. Pace varies from a slow to moderate walk. Artificial light will be limited for a more immersive experience; please bring a flashlight or be prepared to use your cellphone flashlight for additional illumination as needed.

Westchester Amateur Astronomers is a membership club of over 300 space enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. WAA presents monthly lectures at Pace University (and via Zoom) on a wide astronomical range of topics. Star parties at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, New York, where members of the club and the public can observe the night sky with telescopes, are scheduled on many Saturday nights from March through November. Club members provide outreach events throughout the county, where adults and children are introduced to the wonder of the cosmos. Its award-winning monthly newsletter, SkyWAAtch, presents articles and astronomical images made by club members. The club's web site is https://westchesterastronomers.org
