Pigeonwing Dance presents selections from their Carpet Series, performed on and around a 5 x 8-foot Persian-style rug. These short pop-up dance pieces will be performed outdoors in front of Glyndor Gallery on the half-hour between 1 and 2:30PM. The Carpet Series has been shown more than a hundred times across New York City, with feature articles in the NY Daily News and DANCE Magazine, where critic Nancy Wozny observed, "the geometric patterns of the Persian rug echo and amplify Lamb's idiosyncratic movement vocabulary, which is both intensely intricate and unusually syncopated.”
Half-hour performances take place at 1PM, 1:30PM, 2PM and 2:30PM. Registration is not required for this drop-in event.
The New Yorker has described Pigeonwing Dance as “eccentric…playful…curious." Founded by 2020 Guggenheim Fellow Gabrielle Lamb, the company chose the name “Pigeonwing” for its blend of airiness and New York City grit. Pigeonwing has been presented by the CUNY Dance Initiative, 92Y’s Harkness Dance Festival, Bryant Park, Jacob’s Pillow, Works and Process at the Guggenheim, and the New York Botanical Garden. In 2018, Pigeonwing was the first dance company commissioned by Symphony Space’s "Selected Shorts."
This performance is underwritten and made possible by the generosity of our Spring Gala supporters, patrons and partners. We are grateful for their commitment to keep Wave Hill’s gardens and arts programming thriving.
