Learn about NYC’s diverse wildlife and the field of wildlife rehabilitation with educators from the Wild Bird Fund. Meet live bird ambassadors and engage in hands-on activities and games as you learn about the unique traits of birds, the challenges they face in an urban environment, and the services provided by the WBF. Handouts, coloring sheets, and other take-home materials highlight the different aspects of the work done by WBF clinic and education staff. Get your urban bird questions answered here! Appropriate for ages five and older.

The Wild Bird Fund
The Wild Bird Fund provides medical care and rehabilitation to native and passing migrant wildlife so that they can be released back into the wild. Each year, WBF rehabilitates more than 11,000 animals. Rehabilitation includes x-rays, diagnostic testing, surgery, medication, bandaging, splinting, physical therapy and special diets. We treat more than 180 species, from common house sparrows, pigeons and Eastern gray squirrels to rarities such as Virginia rails and snowy owls. This work is funded by donations and accomplished by an animal care staff of about 30 wildlife rehabilitators, who are aided by many dozens of volunteers. In addition, the Wild Bird Fund educates New Yorkers about the rich diversity of the city’s wildlife and how to help it thrive.
