Join us at Wave Hill for an exclusive after-hours encounter! Meet owls of all shapes and sizes. Birders and nature lovers will be treated to a special adventure as the sun sets over the Hudson and nocturnal creatures come to life.

"Early birds" can join a sunset nature walk with local NYC naturalists and birders Gabriel Willow and Ryan Mandelbaum. Listen and look for nocturnal creatures in the shadowy nighttime gardens. You won’t believe you’re in the Bronx!

Falconers Brian and Teddy Bradley and their spectacular live owls headline the evening with an exciting indoor program introducing these amazing birds of prey. Feel the wind brush your face as they fly silently inches above your head and get an intimate look at their adaptations and hunting techniques. Don’t forget your cameras for incredible close-ups!

The evening culminates in a lively round of Bird Trivia with trivia master Ryan Mandelbaum and emcee Gabriel Willow. Bring your own team or form a team here with new friends made during the evening. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Order food and drinks from your table so you won't miss the fun! This event is for adults 21 and older.

4:30-5:30PM: Evening Nature Walk
6:00-7:00PM: Live Owl Program, Armor Hall
7:15-8:30PM: Bird Trivia, Mark Twain Room

The Café, Shop and Wave Hill House will remain open until 8:30PM. Grounds close at 9:00PM. Inclement weather cancels the walk only; the presentation and trivia occur indoors.

Wave Hill House is wheelchair-accessible. There is an accessible, ground-level entrance at the front of the building with a power-assist door. The restroom on the ground level is all-gender and ADA-compliant. Additional ADA-compliant restrooms are available on the lower level, which can be accessed by elevator.

Walks follow a route along mixed-material pathways with varying elevations. A limited amount of walking sticks are available to borrow. Pace varies from a slow walk to moderate walk throughout.

Brian Bradley

Brian Bradley

Brian Bradley is a master falconer from New York’s Hudson Valley. His interest in birds of prey started at the young age of eight, when his brother introduced him to a professor/ornithologist at the local university. Brian got his Falconry license when he was 14, and he has been training birds ever since. For decades he has been lecturing on raptors and spreading awareness about falconry and birds of prey all across the northeast. When he isn’t in front of an audience talking about his birds, he is training with his birds. Bringing a positive learning experience to both audience and bird is paramount to Brian. Whether it's actively hunting with his hawks or talking to a classroom of kids, he feels there is always something to learn and something to share.
Ryan Mandelbaum

Ryan Mandelbaum

Ryan Mandelbaum is a science writer, naturalist, and member of the NYC Audubon's Young Conservationists Council. Originally from Long Island, they travel around their resident borough of Brooklyn searching for and showing others local birds and stopover migrants. Ryan strives to make their walks welcoming, inclusive, and fun and they'll also share plenty of random facts to dispense about the parks, wildlife, science, and more. They have written about birds for a variety of publications, including The New York Times, Gizmodo, Audubon, Gothamist, and more. They also volunteer for the New York State Breeding Bird Atlas, Feminist Bird Club, and The Finch Research Network. When not thinking about birds, Ryan works full-time at IBM as a physics writer.
Gabriel Willow

Gabriel Willow

Gabriel Willow is a naturalist with a particular passion for birds and urban spaces. He is an environmental educator and ecological tour guide in NYC, where he leads tours and teaches classes for NYC Audubon and Wave Hill, among others. His tours focus on seeking out the overlooked and ignored elements of wildness hiding all around us, ranging from boat trips on the East River, to kayaking on Newtown Creek, to seeking the elusive Peregrine Falcons nesting on skyscrapers near Wall Street. He has created programs for Lincoln Center, the Morgan Library and Museum, the NY Botanical Garden, and more. He is also an artist, illustrator, and DJ.
