Meet the Artists: Soeun Bae, Jordany Genao and Dario Mohr
When
Where
Glyndor Terrace Garden and Glyndor Gallery
Join us on Sunday, September 15 for three Meet the Artist programs as part of the 2024 Sunroom Project Space season. At 11:00AM, Dario Mohr invites visitors to participate in Happy Planting Day, a workshop and ceremony that includes drumming and dedicating messages to deceased African ancestors on greeting cards containing African daisy seeds. Happy Planting Day is organized as part of his site-specific sculpture QuadroPod: Seeds of Kenya, a monument dedicated to the 42 tribes of Kenya that inaugurates the newly renovated Glyndor Terrace Garden.
At 12:00PM, join Sunroom Project Space artist Jordany Genao with Curator of Visual Arts Rachel Raphaela Gugelberger and Curatorial Administrative Assistant Afriti Bankwalla. Their discussion will focus on Genao’s unique exploration of the visual and theoretical connections between Indigenous Arawak-Taino cosmology, Caribbean botanical practices and queerness in their Sun Porch exhibition Espíritu de sabor (Spirit of taste).
At 1PM, Soeun Bae’s Sunroom Project Liquid Arrangement is accompanied by Provider (Breeding / Breathing), a site-specific performance that builds on procedures of dependency and regeneration to complicate the relationship between body and object, reflect on the relationship between two people and create a new system of care contingent on agency and bodily autonomy.
Meet the Artist is an ongoing series of programs organized by the curatorial team at Wave Hill with exhibiting artists. This program provides an opportunity for Wave Hill visitors, the artist’s community and others to learn more about an artist’s creative process and the themes within their work.
Registration encouraged, but not required, online or by calling 718.540.3200 x398.
Glyndor Gallery is wheelchair-accessible. There is an accessible, ground-level entrance at the front of the building with an elevator that provides access to the gallery level. The Sunroom Project Space can be accessed with an ADA-compliant ramp. The restroom on the gallery level is all-gender and ADA-compliant. The Glyndor Terrace Garden is accessible via a bluestone path that begins south of the Glyndor House entrance and continues along its western perimeter towards an ADA-compliant ramp located at the Glyndor Terrace Garden’s north entrance.
