Wave Hill is excited to debut our own coloring book starring some of our favorite trees! Get to know thirteen special trees and the amazing diversity of wildlife each one supports. Meet author Leslie Day and artist Trudy Smoke (10am-1pm) and spend some time bringing the drawings alive at our fully stocked coloring station.

Registration is not required. Questions? Please email us at information@wavehill.org or call 718.549.3200 x251

This event takes place on a flat grassy area accessible via flat, paved paths that run along the edge of the Great Lawn. This station is fully accessible in good weather. In case of rain, it will move to Wave Hill House, which is fully accessible to all our visitors. The building is located along a paved route with moderate changes in grade.

Inspired by nature and her vibrant city since childhood, Leslie Day, author of the books Field Guide to the Natural World of New York City, Field Guide to the Street Trees of New York City, Field Guide to the Neighborhood Birds of New York City, and Honeybee Hotel, will see her fifth book published this year: River – A Hudson Memoir. Learning about the great biodiversity of the city from living on a houseboat on the Hudson River for four decades, as a science teacher, Leslie taught her students about the natural world that surrounds them. Now retired from teaching full time, Leslie teaches botany classes for the New York Botanical Garden and continues to create ways for people of all ages to connect to the natural world through the coloring books she has created with her best friend and illustrator, Trudy Smoke.
