Documenting Urban Nature in support of Wild NYC
Many are surprised to hear that New York City is shockingly biodiverse—here, temperate forest denizens, colorful migratory creatures, and a glut of introduced species mix to create a unique ecosystem unlike any other. So, how do you make sense of it all? Come join us for an introduction to thinking about New York City as nature—and how to document it. We'll start with an introduction to the city's non-human residents and how to study them using old and new tools given by nature educator and author Ryan Mandelbaum. Then we'll have an introduction to nature illustration with illustrator Chelsea Beck.
This event is in support of Wild NYC, a family-friendly guide to the natural history of New York City from Timber Press. A Q+A will follow. Books will be available for sale in The Shop before and after the talk.
Advance registration is encouraged online or by calling 718.549.3200 x251. Day-of registration based on availability and not guaranteed. Ages 10 and older welcome with an adult.
