Soft and informal, this year’s Aquatic Garden display features emergent plants that have their roots in the water and most of their foliage above. A mosaic of leaves and colorful flowers converge with one another, covering the surface of the water like a floating meadow. Inspired by the softness of breezy summer grassy swale, this Aquatic Meadow includes many grass-like plants, hardy and exotic water lilies (some are night blooming), a central Victoria cruziana with its huge water platter leaves and other floating oddities. Gardener Christopher Bivens also includes some “made you look plants” like Chelone lyonii (pink turtlehead) that are atypical in this garden.
