Nova Jiang

Ideogenetic Machine, 2011, Interactive installation

Nova Jiang’s artistic practice explores the expanding definition of public space, often through interaction and community collaboration. While in the Workspace she plans to create new models of participation by making tools of artistic production available to Wave Hill visitors. Jiang is a recipient of Wave Hill’s 2012 Van Lier Visual Artist Fellowship. The Fellowship provides the opportunity for New York City-based emerging artists of diverse backgrounds to develop the skills and professional credentials needed to establish a successful career in the arts. As part of the Fellowship, Jiang will have a solo exhibition in Wave Hill’s Sunroom Project Space from July 8 to August 19, 2012. She received her BFA from the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland in New Zealand and her MFA in Media Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles, and also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Madison, ME. She has been a fellow at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center in New York, NY, and is also a recipient of a 2012 Sculpture Space grant and residency in Utica, NY. Jiang’s work has been shown in the United States and worldwide, including exhibitions at Eyebeam and Art in Odd Places in New York, NY.
