| Bryony Ann Romer’s photographs transport the image of Wave Hill House to spectacular and humble natural spaces throughout the five boroughs. On its fictional travels, the house might find itself beneath the green hills of a landfill, by the exuberant tangle of a community garden, on the broad expanse of a median strip, or within a carefully cultivated border. Relocating a model of the building to multiple sites calls attention to what the places have in common, how they are valued differently, and how together they make up – with Wave Hill itself – the vast natural system that underlies our great city.
Bryony Ann Romer has exhibited at HERE Art Center, New York, NY; City Without Walls, Newark, NJ; Brooklyn Working Artist Coalition’s Pier Show, Brooklyn, NY; University of the South, Sewanee, TN, and the UK National Street Arts Festival, Plymouth, England. Romer is the recipient of grants and scholarships from the Brooklyn Arts Council and Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and is a current participant in the Aljira Emerge program. Romer received her B.A., Cum Laude with Distinction in Art from Yale University and her M.F.A from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.
