Assistant Curator
Description and Responsibilities: the Assistant Curator reports to the Senior Curator and is part of team to organize contemporary art exhibitions in the galleries and on the grounds that explore a dialogue between nature, culture and site. Responsibilities include organizational and administrative support to plan and implement Visual Arts projects.
▪ Curatorial: responsible for curating the Project Sunroom Space Program for emerging artists, currently 5 solo projects/exhibitions per year. Contribute to curating for Glyndor exhibits and Winter Workspace artist selection.
▪ Public Programs: organize Winter Workspace open studios and participatory projects, artist talks, panels, and collaborative programs such as The Big Draw.
▪ Exhibition Interpretation Program: hire and train gallery staff to give public and private tours.
▪ Registrarial: oversee loans from artists, galleries and institutions, schedule and oversee contracted art handlers; arrange all incoming/outgoing shipping of artwork via art or commercial shippers, prepare conditions reports for incoming and outgoing work.
▪ Exhibition production: coordinate announcement cards, wall labels and signage; prepare copy & images for the newsletter, website, blog, and social networking as needed.
Requirements: At least 4 years professional experience in a curatorial setting, an MA in art history, arts administration, or the equivalent preferred; excellent communication and writing skills, experience working with artists, museums and arts organizations, and a passion for contemporary art. The successful candidate must be a well-organized and self-motivated individual with the ability to balance multiple project; willing to work as a team member in a small department within a larger non-art institution; Proficiency with Word, Excel, Photoshop. A valid driver’s license is preferred. This position offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
